New Signing! Gabriel Kahane

We're very excited to announced the newest signing and a wonderful wonderful piece of art in Gabriel Kahane's self-titled album.

Today, August 28th, he will be a featured guest and performer on WNYC's Soundcheck with John Schaeffer. Listen here at 2PM! Also look for a feature article in New York Magazine in their September 15th issue.

To celebrate the release of the album, Gabriel will perform a New York City show at The Zipper Factory on Wednesday, September 17th at 10:30 pm. The album will be performed in its entirety, with special guests sure to make appearances. For tickets and directions go here. To all our friends and family/Family that came out to Bar 4 last night:
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. The Hella Fabulous/Family Records showcase was one of the nicest nights of music I've had the privilege to enjoy in a long time, and that's saying something. Every single performer brought a great deal passion, energy, and humor to the stage, Niko worked the sound booth like a champ, and our old and new friends in the audience couldn't have been any more engaged and encouraging. The positive energy in the room was tangible. It was also a rare treat to hear so many of our artists perform in one night, all in the same fantastic little room: Pearl and the Beard, Jeff Jacobson, Matt Singer, and Wakey!Wakey!. Quite the line-up.

Not to make too much of a Hallmark moment of this, but nights like last night serve to remind me how very, very lucky I am to live where I do and to be part of something so special.

After playing outside the Music Hall of Williamsburg on the main stage of the After The Jump Fest, the good folks of Bowery Presents decided it was time to put Wakey!Wakey! inside the venue tomorrow, July 17th!

Not only was the band blown away by the turnout at the Mercury Lounge on a very rainy Saturday, but they've got the great honor of sharing the Main Stage with some outstanding acts at the After The Jump Festival in Williamsburg this Saturday, June 21st! Look for Wakey!Wakey! outside the Music Hall of Williamsburg at 2:30pm. See Mike Grubbs' beard in broad daylight and behold how red it really is.

So Saturday's weather may have been pseudo-apocalyptic, but Wakey!Wakey!'s excellent fans and friends rallied and made the latest show a total success! It may have been raining outside, but the sun was definitely shining at the Mercury Lounge where Wakey!Wakey! (and a massive number of ridiculously talented musicians) delighted the room for the duration of the set. A special thanks goes out to Ari Sommer and Josh Holt of the online music magazine mel.opho.be, who not only braved the weather to come that night, but also took some great photographs and wrote a review that has Mike Grubbs blushing (in a good way!). Mike Grubbs is not only a musician in real life, but he plays one on TV! Check out Episodes 9A and 9B of the All-For-Nots, the fictional indie-rock band trying to conquer America, one gig at a time. Mike is absolutely priceless as Elias P., the pompous ex-bandmate.
