In Caitlin’s own words:

“Selah’s roots are in Delusion. I wrote Selah after I moved to New York, a place where I learned a remarkable amount about myself, about humanity, and about the world. “Sylvia (If It Meant)” is mostly about the delusion of love. Sylvia, the character, represents a version of me that benefits from hindsight.

I first introduced her in “Se Tu M’ami” (on the “I Was Once (Oh)” EP). I asked her to “help me see the other flowers,” as I was stuck on Roses. In “Sylvia (If It Meant),” I am stuck on Buttercups. I like the subject of flowers. In them I find color, texture, shape, beauty, movement, and emotion. I chose the Buttercup in reference to “Build Me Up (Buttercup)” by the Foundations and a tragic Halloween run-in I had with a boy sized Buttercup I knew many years ago.”

This year’s CMJ Festival is creeping up on us again and we have a special announcement to make! We hope you join us all for a special Family Records Friday when Casey Shea, Pearl and the Beard and Lacrymosa play the Living Room Family Records Daytime Showcase (1pm-6pm) and Wakey!Wakey! will perform at Bowery Ballroom in the evening as part of the Highroad Booking Showcase. We just launched the brand new IAmLacrymosa.com, courtesy of Schram Industries, featuring a brand new and beautiful live music video for “Weltschmerz”, and a full album stream for the upcoming album “Selah”. We created the album over the course of the last academic year as Caitlin’s graduation project at NYU, and she earned not only an A, but also a special award for “Outstanding Achievement in Music Production”. We’re so proud.

This weekend our friends Sarah Walker Scheld and Jason Blevins, fresh out of NYU’s film school, have been working hard on the first ever Lacrymosa music video, who is fresh out of NYU’s music school. We can’t wait to see the results. It was shot over the weekend in Long Island, and we have some behind-the-scenes photos. For more photos and Caitlin’s comments, check out the Lacrymosa blog. “Simple Questions” will be the lead single off of Lacrymosa’s “Selah” album.

Messing about with iMovie and with some compiled footage shot in the Netherlands I put together this is a home-made and unofficial video set to Lacrymosa‘s “I Was Once”. More info here. Listen to the full album here. Hope you enjoy! — Wesley

Our first recording session for Lacrymosa‘s yet-to-be-titled full length, with engineer Alan Gordon. You can’t see anything because we’re recording the final piano track in the dark! Very moody and lacrymosa-ish! More soon….
